RIP Blockbuster. Actually, Good Riddance
Today marked the beginning of E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, basically the biggest convention of the year that has to do with video games. Today was Microsoft's big press conference for their XBox 360, and one of the many things they announced was a partnership with Netflix! What this means is, with a Netflix subscription and a internet connection you can rent a movie from your XBox 360 and watch instantly. No going to a store, no waiting for it in the mail.

This was the smartest move Netflix could make and will any person who owns a 360 and a Blockbuster pass should, and probably will, switch to Netflix because you cannot get any more simple than pressing a button and watching.

Blockbuster has been a company I have never liked, and I will be happy to see them go the way of the Dodo. Another bonus is that it will hurt Apple and the AppleTV. Yay!

Apple - How I Hate Thee

Recently, in my downtime I visited good ol' Maddox at http://maddox.xmission.com/ and my hate for all things that are Apple was renewed. iMac, OSX, iPod, iPhone, iTunes, the whole shebang. First of all, what is with the lower case "i" in front of everything, what does that even mean!? The products themselves are decent, they work, but they do not work as well as Apple claims. Like they say iMacs cannot get viruses like Windows can. WHAT!?! The reason why iMacs cannot get viruses is because a virus cannot spread over the internet when only 5% of the computers on the internet are Macs. Viruses can only be programmed to a specific operating system and Windows, having control over almost all computers, can quickly spread viruses because of the density of computers, Macs are just as vulnerable but the lack of popularity is what the problem is.

iTunes store is another thing that pisses me off. Why do the songs you download have DRM on them and why are they not in MP3 format? This forces people who buy songs to have an iPod or otherwise they cannot listen to them on the go. What about people with Microsoft Zunes or Creative Zens? Once you buy an iTunes you are stuck with iPod's the rest of your life. Unless you pay the extra 30 cents and get DRM free, which is just a rip off. Here is tip for all you readers out there, stop buying songs from iTunes and start buying them from Amazon.com music store. They are all $.99, all MP3, and all DRM free! One last thing about iTunes is, its End Users License Agreement (EULA) states that you cannot use iTunes for "the development, design, manufacture or production of missiles, or nuclear, chemical or biological weapons." What the fuck? Apparently iTunes, an music player, as the potential of doing a lot more than just playing music. (sarcasm)

The last thing that bugs me about Apple is apple users, they either rant about how awesome they are for having an Apple product or they walk around like they are the shit. This is especially true for iPhone users. iPhone is a cool phone, not the coolest and certainly not worth bragging about, and anyone who brags about how cool their phone or iPod, or Mac is, is simply a victim of advertising. So to all your Mac users, please shut up and stop thinking you are the shit. Also, stop asking people "Do you have an iPod?" NO I DON'T! I have a Microsoft Zune and it is totally awesome!

By the way, I do not own any Apple products, I do own a Sony Vaio laptop running Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 8.04, a Microsoft Zune player, LG Chocolate cell phone, and an Xbox 360 as my media center.

Also, check out Maddox's rant about Apple, it is better than mine :) http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=macs_cant
